A visit to Llyn Brenig gave me the opportunity to spend time watching and photographing one of North Wales’s most impressive summer visitors – the osprey.
I settled into the dedicated photography hide, looking across towards the protected nesting site and waiting for those wonderful moments when an osprey appeared above the reservoir. There is something very special about watching these powerful birds in their natural surroundings, soaring effortlessly over the water before returning towards the nest.
Ospreys first began visiting Llyn Brenig in 2015, with the first successful breeding recorded in 2018. The project has since become an important part of the continuing recovery of this remarkable species in Wales.
For me, though, the pleasure was simply being there: camera ready, watching and waiting. Wildlife photography often requires patience, but sitting quietly beside the beautiful waters of Llyn Brenig, surrounded by the wild Welsh landscape, made the waiting part of the experience.
The images are a little far away as you are legally allowed no closer than 150 metres from an Ospreys next in the UK which as I was very happy with as just to see them was a priviledge.
