Masai Mara

Every once in a while, if you are lucky, you discover a place so special, so magical, that it stays with you forever. For me, that place is the Masai Mara.

Although this was not my first visit to the Mara, it was my first photography-focused safari, and travelling with Ann Aveyard Photography made it an unforgettable experience.

From a photographic perspective, the trip was everything I had hoped for and more. Ann works alongside Mike Masai, an exceptional guide whose knowledge of the Mara is second to none. Having worked extensively with Ann—and also with BBC wildlife productions—Mike has an instinctive understanding of both animal behaviour and the needs of photographers. Time and again he seemed to know exactly where the action would be and, just as importantly, how to position the vehicle to make the most of the light and the photographic opportunities.

I’m still working my way through the thousands of photographs I brought home, and every image brings back wonderful memories of this remarkable trip.
The first 2 days of my trip were spent at Loldia House on Lake Naivasha, followed by 6 nights at Governors’ Camp on the banks of the Mara River.
