There is something rather magical about seeing the world in miniature. On a recent Windsor Photographic Society club visit to Bekonscot Model Village, I spent the day wandering through its tiny towns and villages, looking for photographic possibilities among the miniature houses, railway stations, gardens and wonderfully detailed little scenes.
What amazed me the most was the absolute attention to detail especially with the miniature bonsai style trees which kept everything in proportion.
For me, the visit was less about simply recording the models and more about finding interesting compositions — curves, patterns, reflections and small details that might easily be overlooked. With trains weaving through the landscape and miniature stories unfolding around every corner, there was certainly no shortage of subjects.
It proved to be a surprisingly enjoyable place for photography, and a good reminder that sometimes changing our scale and viewpoint can make us look at familiar things in a completely different way.
