WALES – A Sense of Place

Wales has always been more than somewhere I visit. I grew up in Wales, so its mountains, coastlines and changing landscapes have been familiar to me for much of my life.

There is a Welsh word, hiraeth, which has no exact English translation. It describes a deep longing for home — a sense of belonging, nostalgia and an emotional connection to a place and the memories held within it. Perhaps that is part of what keeps drawing me back to Wales.

Over the years I have returned many times, and photography has given me a new way of looking at places I thought I knew so well. Through my camera I find myself noticing the changing light on the mountains, the wildness of the coast, ancient castles and quiet woodlands, as well as the wildlife that makes its home here.

This collection brings together photographs made over many years — old favourites alongside new discoveries. It isn’t intended as a record of Wales, but rather a personal view of a place I know, remember and continue to rediscover.

This is Wales as I see it — familiar, enduring, and always calling me back.
